I grew up in a home that encouraged multiculturalism. My father had an infectious personality that people loved to be around. He was a fan of all sports and was a regular volunteer.
I was taught at a young age that everyone is equal. Humanity must come first. I was taught that inclusiveness is a fundamental right of society and those who challenge this must be held accountable for their actions. I was taught forgiveness, and that education is the key to positively moving forward from any challenging situation that might arise.
Playing sports allowed me to interact with people from all walks of life and reinforced that inclusivity is for all. A belief that everyone belongs. Unfortunately, it was also the first time racial comments were directed towards me because I looked different. Not because of my skill, my drive, or ambitions, simply because of the colour of my skin. Two decades later, my son has experienced the same. Primarily, sports were the only places these incidents occurred. I was taught to stand up for what I believe. When dealing with people, lack of integrity and inhumanity are not options. Everyone belongs. Everyone is entitled to enjoy anything as much as I do, regardless of their race/ethnicity.
I joined law enforcement and have been an investigator for over 2 decades. It has provided me the opportunity to interact with diverse communities and a platform to give back in a professional role, volunteer role, and as a guardian. To be a champion regarding equality and diversity. To lead by example.
My value system is based on acceptance and inclusiveness. I believe in justice, fairness, and integrity for all. It is the core of who I am. JFT is an initiative that ensures everyone has the right to enjoy their passions and dreams regardless of race, ethnicity, gender or nationality. This project holds accountable, those who decide equality and inclusiveness are not fundamental rights of society.
